Recognition of foreign education

The condition for admission to study in the Bachelor’s degree programme or a Master’s degree programme that is not a follow-up of the Bachelor’s degree programme is the completion of  a secondary education finished with a school-leaving examination.

Graduates of secondary education in Czechia shall submit the school-leaving certificate in the form of an officially certified copy; this is usually required upon enrolment.

Graduates of a secondary education completed abroad have to verify their previous secondary education by one of the following methods:

Recognition of foreign education by Regional office – "nostrification"

Decision issued by Regional Office or Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is valid for admission to study at any higher education institution in the Czech republic or for purpose of work and its use is not time-limited. More information: https://portal.gov.cz/en/sluzby-vs/nostrifikace-zahranicniho-vysvedceni-S1101

For purpose of enrolment, present decision on the recognition of a foreign school report in the Czech Republic together with the recognition clause confirming the validity of a foreign certificate of completed education in the Czech Republic or by a certificate of recognition of equivalence of a foreign certificate of completed education in the Czech Republic in the form of officially certified copy

Graduates of schools based in Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, and Hungary

The Czech Republic is bound by bilateral agreements on mutual recognition of educational qualifications with Hungary, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia, the Federal Republic of Germany and Slovak Republic.This applies only to certificates under the education system of the mentioned countries.
If the document is from Germany, you also need an apostille.  

Present your final certificate of foreign secondary education with a school-leaving examination in the form of an officially certified copy or an authorized conversion with an official translation into Czech or English (translations are not required for certificates issued in Slovak or English).
No verification fee is required.

Holders of International Baccalaureate

Present a certificate of the International Baccalaureate, in the form of an officially certified copy or an authorized conversion with an official translation into Czech or English (translations are not required for certificates issued in Slovak or English).
Holders of IB are exempted from verification fee payment.

Internal verification by Faculty

Graduates of foreign secondary schools from countries other than mentioned in paragraph b) or holders of certificate mentioned in paragraph c) may opt for verification of condition of admission to study at the faculty. The procedure is bounded by Directive no. 2/21.

Compared to nostrification such verification of condition for admission to study is only valid for the given term of admission and for the faculty that carried out the verification.

Present a foreign certificate of foreign secondary education, which was obtained through graduation from a secondary education programme at a foreign secondary school operating under legal regulations of the foreign country, which entitles its holder in that foreign country to study in a higher education institutions degree programmes:

  • in the form of an officially certified copy or an authorized conversion
  • with verification of signatures and stamps in accordance with international obligations of the Czech Republic
  • officially translated into Czech or English (translations are not required for certificates issued in Slovak or English), including translation of all stamps, signatures, notary clauses etc. on the document

Graduates of schools following British education system (A-levels) or GED

Following information is related to Internal verification only:

a) I have A-levels
Since the UK education system is completely different to education system of the Czech republic, Masaryk university accepts following certificates as condition for access to higher education:

  • GCE A levels - minimum 3 A-level exams regardless of the subjects and grades
  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma
  • combination of BTEC Level 3 National Diploma and 1 A-level exam
    General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) CANNOT be accepted for the purpose of enrolment to studies.

One of the above mentioned certificates must be present in the form of official copy with apostille stamp from The Legalization Office of Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Fee for internal verification is imposed subsequently. Other option is to undergo nostrification at Regional Office in the Czech republic.

b) I have GED
You can provide confirmation from GED verifying the diploma, in case of electronic version of the document.

Pay verification fee (990 CZK).

Once you collected required document in form of verified copy and with required authentication (if necessary), please

1) Send scan of the document to admission office by email.
2) Pay verification fee is required. 
3) Bring hard copy of the final certificate for enrolment to studies.

Certified copy of secondary education certificate or nostrification clause needs to be presented no later than the date of enrolment to studies. Applicants who wish to be nominated to Student Mode for faster visa process need to submit final school-leaving certificate during admission period.
