Study and examination information
The Academic year is divided into two semesters: autumn and spring. Teaching period lasts for 13 weeks, followed by 6 weeks of the examination period.
In order to fulfill requirements for enrollment to the following semester, a student must:
- gain a minimum of 20 ECTS each semester or 45 ECTS for courses enrolled in a given semester and immediately preceding semester;
- successfully complete all repeated courses.
There are three groups of courses in the study curriculum:
- Compulsory courses - all must be taken and successfully completed during studies.
- Compulsory selective courses - minimum of 4 compulsory selective courses must be completed; once enrolled, the course becomes compulsory and must be completed.
- Selective courses - do not need to be taken or completed the first time they are enrolled, however become compulsory if a student doesn't apply for course-repetition exemption.
In order to successfully complete a course, credit test/exam can be attempted up to three times the first time it's enrolled, twice when it is repeated.
The minimum credit requirement for study completion is 300 ECTS. After that students are allowed to take Final State examination and defend their Diploma Thesis.
These are only a few basic guidelines for studies, please find them all in detail in the MU Study and Examination Regulations (below). All students are obligated to know and follow the regulations throughout their studies at the university.

Compulsory pharmacy internships
There are two compulsory practical trainings included in the curriculum (FARP1_11 Pharmacy Internship I-2 weeks and FASM1_11 Internship II - 24 weeks). Students apply theoretical knowledge gained during the previous years of study in the real environment of pharmacy practice.
Compulsory 6-month pharmacy internship is integral part of the curriculum, undertaken in the 9th semester of studies.
This internship is a culmination of the entire master's degree programme and applies all the theoretical knowledge into practice, that is why in order to be eligible for enrollment in FASM1_11, students need to pass all of the compulsory courses and obtain over 250 credits (with only the 24 credits for the internship and 20 credits for completion of the Diploma thesis left to complete their studies, e.i. gain 300 credits).
The internship is a full-time job (5 days/week, 8 hours/day) so the students are therefore not allowed to enrol in any other courses in the same semester (with exception of online courses).
Students in the English master’s programme must conduct at least 2 weeks of their internship in a pharmacy in the Czech Republic (either as part of Pharmacy Internship I or II). The remaining length of practice can be done anywhere in the world.
Please contact Dr. Dana Mazánková immediately after registration of FASM1_11 Internship II -24 weeks course. She will provide you with all information necessary for successful completion of the course.
Moreover, students can do other internships in a pharmacy or pharmaceutical company of their choice and gain extra credits.
Diploma Thesis
Approaching the end of the 3rd year of studies, students should start thinking about a topic for their thesis and looking for a supervisor, and in the autumn semester of the 4th year they register their Diploma Thesis topic in IS, and enrol in course: 'Diploma Thesis I'.
There is two ways to get assinged a thesis topic:
a) you can either choose from the topics offered in the IS (published at the end of August/beginning of September): section 'Topic Lists - Diploma Thesis topic assignment';
b) or contact a supervisor directly, depending on a topic/field you have in mind or department where you'd like to work on your research, and come up with a topic together.
For students who transfered their studies form a different university, and are 'formally' not in their 4th year yet, please note: you can only choose your thesis topic and enrol in Diploma Thesis I after you obtain the minimum of 150 credits, not before.
In the 4th and 5th year, enroll in courses Diploma Thesis I-III (FACD1, FACD2, FACD3) according to study curriculum, and the given department, as follows:
