Describe your journey to Faculty of Pharmacy

I travelled to the Czech Republic a few years before and felt in love with the culture, so naturally this was my first chose. My journey to the Faculty of Pharmacy began with a deep interest in science and a desire to help others. I was always curious about the pharmaceutical world and how it helps in people’s health. This passion led me to focus on biology and chemistry in high school, where I developed a strong foundation. Choosing pharmacy felt like the perfect path, combining my love for science with the goal of making a real difference in healthcare coming from a family of healthcare professional. Joining the Faculty of Pharmacy has been a rewarding step towards becoming a knowledgeable and compassionate pharmacist.

What did you like about your studies?

The best part of my studies was definitely the practical classes—it’s incredibly exciting to apply theory in practice. Our teachers consistently encouraged us to do our best, and their support made a big difference. Both the Teachers and the Study office were always approachable, kind, and ready to help in any way they could. I was also very enriching to learn Czech language and the culture.

What difficulties have you encountered before or after moving to Brno?

Coming from the beautiful island of Mauritius, a non-European country, navigating the Visa process can be challenging especially during Covid times. However, the Study office provided outstanding support, making this difficult step much more manageable. The language barrier was also a bit tough at first, but over time, you naturally pick up some Czech. A friendly smile and a few local words go a long way in making everyday interactions smoother.

What advice would you give to new students?

My advice is to stay focused and organized in your studies while enjoying this student life. Don’t hesitate to ask for help—whether from your teachers, the study office, or fellow students. Maintaining a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and personal life is key. And most importantly, make sure to enjoy your journey at the Faculty of Pharmacy and make the most of Brno!

What do you do now, how does your journey continue?

I am currently completing a one-year Pre-Registration internship as a pharmacist in my home country Mauritius, which is a mandatory step to obtain my pharmacist license and an important milestone in my career. After that, I’m considering further studies—either an Advanced Master's or a PhD. Time will tell where the journey leads!
